Established on May 31, 1985, we have been improving lives locally and globally through service, grants, scholarships, and partnerships with other giving organizations in the Livermore area. Sharing the Gift of Reading![]() Members of our club joined with other Rotarians in Livermore to participate in the Rotarian Foundation of Livermore's Annual Gift of Reading project. Each of the 969 third graders in the Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District received a new, hardcover literature novel thanks to the generosity of RFL. This year, in partnership with Towne Center Books, RFL invited students to choose their favorite of three titles selected by 3rd grade teachers and the Elementary Library Specialists. In February, students came to their libraries to learn about the choices and selected either The One and Only Ivan, by Katherine Applegate, Wayside School Beneath the Cloud of Doom, by Louis Sachar, or The Wild Robot, by Peter Brown. |

Volunteers Needed to Evaluate RFL Grant Applications![]() Rotarians are invited to volunteer to evaluate applications for this year's Rotarian Foundation of Livermore (RFL) Community Grants. Annually, the RFL awards grants to organizations in the Livermore community that align with RFL values, thereby enabling RFL to support the community more completely. As an evaluator, you will need to attend a Zoom training meeting and then you will be able to evaluate the applications over a 2-week period, on your own time. Please use this link to volunteer and to indicate your preference for the time of the training meeting: RFL Grant Evaluator Volunteer Form. Complete the form by Friday 3/7 at 5:00 pm if you would like to have a vote in the training meeting time. This year, RFL has received 50 applications, requesting a total of $417, 019. We will be able to fund approximately half of that amount. The evaluation process is even more important this year because of the need shown by our community. Today: Getting Ready to Evaluate RFL Grant Applications![]() Please join a zoom meeting today at 5:00 to get started evaluating grants for the Rotarian Foundation of Livermore (RFL) Community Grants. Plan for a 30-minute meeting. After today's meeting, you will have about 3 weeks to evaluate the applications on your own time. (The amount of time you spend will probably range from 6 - 15 hours, depending on how quickly you read and process the applications.) This year, RFL has received 49 applications, requesting a total of $415, 019. We will be able to fund approximately half of that amount. Ambassadors of Compassion Launches at Junction Ave![]() Rotarians and other community leaders are invited to serve Livermore's youth by participating as a Team Facilitator in the Ambassadors of Compassion R.I.S.E. program that launches Friday, February 28 for 7th and 8th grade students at Junction Avenue K-8 School. This 8-week program improves students' mental and emotional wellbeing. The curriculum, in just one hour a week, teaches emotional resilience, character development, and leadership that helps to reduce anxiety, depression, and negative thoughts. This program was a huge success at Junction Ave last year; Principal Jeannette Garza is eager to have it return. Lithium-Ion Battery Recycling EventAll community members are invited to drop off their used lithium-ion batteries and/or their devices that contain lithium-ion batteries for free recycling. Rotary club members will be at Tri-Valley Car Care, 1737 First Street, Livermore, from 11 am - 5 pm on Sunday, January 12 to accept your items and have them safely recycled. Keep these toxic batteries out of our landfills! Bring old rechargeable batteries and any devices that contain lithium-ion batteries. You will be helping to sustain our supply of lithium while helping to provide the batteries that power portable electronics and electric vehicles.

Holiday Train of Lights![]() All Rotarians are invited to celebrate the holidays aboard the magical Niles Canyon Railway Train of Lights! Rotarians have reserved tickets for Monday, December 16, departing from Niles Station at 4:30 pm. Tickets range from $55 for general seating to $85 for premium dome car and premium parlor car seats. |
Richard King Tribute DinnerFormer District Governor Richard Flanders visited our club this morning to extend a personal invitation to attend the Richard D. King Tribute Dinner, benefiting the Richard D. King Endowed Fund for Rotary Peace Centers. The dinner will be held on Sunday, February 2, 2025 at The Blackhawk Museum in Danville. No Host Bar starts at 5:00; Dinner is served at 6:00. The cost is $150. In addition to dinner, guests will hear from Rotary International President Stephanie Urchick, as well as Past RI Presidents, Gary Huang and Mark Maloney. Auction items include a trip to Pittsburgh, PA to have dinner with Stephanie Urchick, an African Safari, and an Arizona getaway. Money raised will support the Rotary Peace Centers. We consider the following criteria when we evaluate applications:
We do make grants to educators, with the understanding that the funding supports projects in local classrooms and schools. Grants are made to organizations, not individuals, with rare exceptions. Kevin Drake Scholarship Launched![]() Honoring Kevin Drake for his legacy of service in the Livermore community, and in support of education, the Rotary Club of Livermore Valley has donated $10,000 to launch a scholarship in Kevin Drake’s name. The scholarship will be offered through the Pedrozzi Foundation to students graduating from any of the public high schools in Livermore. “Our hope is to fully endow this scholarship by raising $100,000, so that students will benefit from this gift in perpetuity,” said Dave Bedford. The Livermore community is invited to donate to the fund at PedrozziFoundation.org.

Sharing the Gift of Reading![]() We are proud to join with our fellow Livermore Rotarians and the Rotarian Foundation of Livermore to purchase and deliver hardcover children’s literature to each 3rd grade student in the Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District! Rotarians are invited to deliver books in person to students at their schools, March 20 - March 31, 2023. We will be donating almost 1,000 books to Livermore students. Each student will receive a book with a customized bookplate attached to the inside of the book (template pictured left). |
Ambassadors of Compassion Partnership![]() All Rotarians are invited to serve Livermore's youth by participating as a Team Coach in the Ambassadors of Compassion R.I.S.E. program that launches on March 8, 2023 for 7th and 8th grade students at Junction Avenue K-8 School. The Rotarian Foundation of Livermore is making this program possible for our local youth. Rotary volunteers will make it successful. |

Supporting Tri-Valley Haven![]() President Kevin McCallum and Community Service Director David Goulart represent our club as they present a $10,000 check to Christine Dillman, Acting Executive Director of Tri-Valley Haven, to support the new Domestic Violence Safety Shelter that will provide a safe place for families in crisis. We are proud to be able to support this local nonprofit that provides safety and support to individuals and families in times of crisis.

Community organizations are encouraged to seek support for their ongoing efforts or their special projects that contribute to the health and wellbeing of our community. Rotarian Foundation of Livermore Celebrates 35 Years![]() We are celebrating 35 years of supporting our community through the Rotarian Foundation of Livermore! Since our funding goal was reached in 1999, we have donated over $2 million to nonprofits, schools, and our city. On July 21st, we celebrated our anniversary on the Rotary Bandstand in Carnegie Park, one of our most visible community gifts. |
Demotion 2022 - Thank You, Angelika!![]() We celebrated our successful 2021-22 Rotary year and said goodbye to outgoing President Angelika Voss-Quinn at our annual Demotion Dinner on June 22, 2022. Thanks to Jerry Hawkins for leading us in song, to Eric Dillie and Pete Patterson for making us fall off our chairs laughing, to Sarah Palmer for opening up her beautiful backyard to us, and to the Demotion Committee for all of their planning. Rotarian Foundation Awards 2022 Grants![]() The Rotarian Foundation of Livermore was proud to award over $94,000 in grants to 22 deserving community organizations. Our club joins with the Rotary Club of Livermore to lead the work of the Foundation, allowing us to enhance our service to our community. The Gift of Reading!![]() We were proud to join with our fellow Livermore Rotarians and the Rotarian Foundation of Livermore to purchase and deliver children’s literature books to each 3rd and 4th grade student in the Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District! We partnered with Towne Center Books to purchase over 1,900 hardcover books to give to students. |
Successful Arbor Day Tree Planting!![]() Club President Angelika Voss-Quinn welcomed over 200 volunteers on Saturday, March 12th during the Statewide Amplify the Urban Forest Arbor Day event in Livermore. Everyone worked together to plant 65 trees. Friends, families, neighbors, co-workers, and Daisy Scouts joined with Rotarians to make this day a success. We beautified Livermore and helped to improve our global environment!

Fellowship at OlivinaOn Sunday, February 20th, we enjoyed a beautiful afternoon at the Olivina tasting olive oil, meeting prospective members, and sharing food and fellowship. The Olivina is open to the public from noon - 4:30 on the third Sunday of each month. Come on out to 4555 Arroyo Road any time after noon and enjoy the beautiful weather while meeting some new friends. Rotarian Charles Crohare is on hand to discuss the olive oils.

Rotarian Jill Duerig Honored![]() Jill Duerig was recently honored for her generosity to the Rotarian Foundation. She is pictured with Rotary International President Shekhar Mehta (right) and Past President and current Foundation Chair, Mark Maloney (left). Jill currently serves as a District 5170 Lieutenant Governor overseeing Avenues of Service, and she is a Past President of our club.

Sharing Thanksgiving Turkeys![]() On Saturday November 20, 2021 we met at Grocery Outlet where Store Owner and Rotarian Kelli Wiggins (pictured, left, with Roy Porfido) helped us load 52 turkeys into our cars as we set out to deliver them to deserving families in Livermore. Thanks to our fundraising efforts through Football Follies and the World Series & Super Bowl Pools, we raise enough money to purchase turkeys and $50 gift cards to Grocery Outlet that we then delivered to families in time for Thanksgiving. |
Creating Space for Community![]() Our club supports the residents and mission of Goodness Village, the tiny home community in Livermore at Crosswinds Church. After hearing from Director Kim Curtis about the need for residents to have some place to gather outdoors, our club member Dave Goulart led us in a community service project to make Goodness Village a true community. |

We Support the Wheelchair Foundation![]() Our club is proud to support the international Wheelchair Foundation during our 2021-22 club year! On Tuesday, November 2, our International Chair, Leslie Lemieux, presented District 5170 Governor, Richard Flanders, with a check for $6,150 from our club to donate directly to the Wheelchair Foundation!

Kids Against Hunger Service Project![]() Members of the Rotary Club of Livermore Valley joined other Area 4 Club members on Saturday, September 25, 2021 to serve our community by packing 38,016 meal kits to provide food for those in need. We enjoyed camaraderie with Rotarians from throughout the Bay Area - Livermore, Pleasanton, Dublin, Castro Valley, Hayward, and San Leandro. Thanks to Kids Against Hunger for welcoming us! |

Livermore Rotarians Award Annual Grants![]() On April 13, 2021, the Rotarian Foundation of Livermore awarded $81,500 to community organizations as part of its annual grant program. Both Livermore Rotary Clubs join together to raise funds for the Foundation grants and to serve on the Foundation Board. |
Partnering to Support Students![]() The Rotary Club of Livermore Valley joined with the Livermore Valley Education Foundation (LVEF), the Rotary Club of Livermore, and the Rotarian Foundation of Livermore to donate funds to provide Chromebooks to students in the Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District (LVJUSD) during distance learning, necessitated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Our Club Helps with COVID-19 Relief![]() We have not seen a more challenging time than the current coronavirus pandemic, with the emergency creating desperation and needs, both locally and globally. Rotarians are people of action who want to help during such times. The Livermore Valley Rotary Club was able to serve our community during this challenging time.
