"Those who don't believe in magic will never find it."
TODAY'S 10-SPOT
Today we celebrated the completion of 74 10-Spot boards! Kevin McCallum won the privilege of designating funds for the next board, and he selected our club's account in RFL.
Today's 10-Spot expressed gratitude for holiday service at the CAPE Children's Holiday Party and the Veterans Christmas Lunch.
TRAVEL TRIBUTE
Sarah Palmer returned from her week at the ACWA Conference, and brought Beth a flashlight - in recognition that Beth is the light of our club this year!
TODAY'S PROGRAM: MEALS ON WHEELS
We welcomed Carrie Oldes, Program Manager for Spectrum Services Meals on Wheels, the local provider for Meals on Wheels in the Tri-Valley. Carrie shared the value of this important program, noting that approximately 250 meals are delivered daily, Monday - Friday, to homebound individuals, aged 60 and older, who are unable to prepare their own meals. In partnership with Stanford Tri-Valley, all meals are planned, cooked, and packaged under the guidance of nutritionists. Meals on Wheels delivered 74,000 meals this past year!
Volunteers donate their time to deliver meals in person. This important step of seeing the client in person allows a food delivery also to be a welfare check and a point of human contact that shows the individual that they are cared for.
Meals on Wheels also delivers meals for pets when donations allow. Carrie thanked Rotary for the grant award that funds reusable bags for clients.
The Meals on Wheels program is funded partially through the Older Americans Act, and especially through community donations.
Spectrum Community Services is also organizing a Giving Tree for Meals on Wheels clients. We are invited to volunteer to purchase a gift to brighten the holidays of one (or more) of these homebound community members.
All Rotarians are invited to celebrate the holidays aboard the magical Niles Canyon Railway Train of Lights! Rotarians have reserved tickets for Monday, December 16, departing from Niles Station at 4:30 pm.
Tickets range from $55 for general seating to $85 for premium dome car and premium parlor car seats.
Former District Governor Richard Flanders visited our club this morning to extend a personal invitation to attend the Richard D. King Tribute Dinner, benefiting the Richard D. King Endowed Fund for Rotary Peace Centers. The dinner will be held on Sunday, February 2, 2025 at The Blackhawk Museum in Danville. No Host Bar starts at 5:00; Dinner is served at 6:00. The cost is $150.
In addition to dinner, guests will hear from Rotary International President Stephanie Urchick, as well as Past RI Presidents, Gary Huang and Mark Maloney.
