Rotary Club of Livermore Valley ~ August 2022 Newsletter
President's Message
Dear Rotarians,
August is the ideal time to consider our international theme of “Imagine Rotary” and the impact we make to our community, our international needs and our club members. Just imagine all the possibilities when we put our visions into actions.
August was the kickoff of our Club’s annual theme with a focus on action and caring.
WE ROTARY…….. BECAUSE WE CARE
The word Rotary is most often considered a noun. But as “People of Action” I declare the word Rotary should be used as a verb. WE ROTARY since everything we do consists of positive actions that ripple throughout the community.
But more important is why do WE ROTARY? Here are three simple reasons why:
Because we care about Livermore community service
Because we care about international needs
Because we care about people
We never lose sight of the importance of people in our local community, our international community, and in our club. We are dedicated to helping people thrive.
Now is the time to enjoy the summer with much needed rest and relaxing. And get ready as we gear up our events, starting with a Kids Against Hunger event in September.
Enjoy those final summer vacations and be safe.
Kevin
ROTARIAN FOUNDATION OF LIVERMORE CELEBRATES 35 YEARS OF GIVING
We are celebrating 35 years of supporting our community through the Rotarian Foundation of Livermore! Since our funding goal was reached in 1999, we have donated over $2 million to nonprofits, schools, and our city.
On July 21st, we celebrated our anniversary on the Rotary Bandstand in Carnegie Park, one of our most visible community gifts.
We had fun sharing information about Rotary with Farmers Market visitors. Pictured below, left to right: Roy Porfido, Rich Goldstein, Philomena Rambo, Mary Anne Rozsa*, Gordon Jones*, Sarah Palmer, Bassant Aldelrahman.
Our Club Nominating Committee, consisting of past presidents and our current president, met and selected Sherri Simoni as our President Elect for 2022-23. Committee Chair Angelika Voss Quinn presented Sherri's name to the club membership at the August 2 meeting, where Sherri was unanimously approved! Our Board then took action to officially appoint Sherri as our President Elect.
For members of our club and community who haven't had a chance to work with Sherri, you are invited to read about her contributions to our club on the Rotarian of the Year webpage.
JULY SOCIAL COMBINES SERVICE & FUN
President Kevin invites all club members to join together socially, outside of regular club meetings. This month, several members enjoyed rocking out to the Spazmatics at the Music in the Orchard concert, held Thursday, July 28 at Purple Orchid Inn.
The event benefits one of our community partners, the Pedrozzi Foundation. As part of our work with the Rotarian Foundation of Livermore, we support graduating seniors by funding the Bill Geyer Memorial Scholarship, administered through the Pedrozzi Foundation.
Hope to see everyone next month at Music in the Orchard on Thursday, August 25 as we enjoy the music of local band, Crawdad Republic.
