How Many, How Much
by Shel Silverstein
How many slams in an old screen door?
Depends how loud you shut it.
How many slices in a bread?
Depends on how thin you cut it.
How much good inside a day?
Depends on how good you live 'em.
How much love inside a friend?
Depends how much you give 'em.
  • Wolfgang Stoeffl, who is back on the water, asked Mark Hudson to deliver the Joke of the Day: What do you call a row of rabbits hopping backwards?  A receding hareline!

The 10-Spot
Today's Program: Quest Science Center
President-elect Beth McCormick introduced Monya Lane (pictured below), who retired as the Associate Director of Engineering at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. Her 35-year career as a mechanical engineer included overseeing the development of innovations in advanced manufacturing, bioengineering and data science. She currently serves as the CEO of Quest Science Center.
Quest is a nonprofit organization incorporated in 2018, with plans to build a center in downtown near Stockmen’s Park (Quest Plaza). Plans were approved by the Livermore City Council in 2020. Monya shared the Quest Science Center 2022 Annual Report.
Quest's vision is to connect everyone to the value of science.
In 2022, Quest engaged our community in science, through Science @ Stockmen's Park, the Tri-Valley Innovation Fair, School Programs, and a variety of community events.

Monya shared that High School Interns are the secret sauce. Their involvement in Quest offers both leadership and science opportunities. They create activities and teach others in the community. They had activities at the Chili Cook Off in both 2021 and 2022!
Quest benefits from the support of community partners, whose financial generosity allows the Quest vision to become reality. Quest is updating the DDA for the Science Center in October. In the meantime, they plan to upgrade Quest Plaza. They are looking for work space for their high school interns.
Monya invited us to visit the Quest website to see photos and videos of the 2023 Innovation Fair and to learn about Engineering Exploration, a new activity planned for the upcoming 2023-24 school year.
