The Weekly Meeting Summary of the Rotary Club of Livermore Valley
September 12, 2023
Opening the Meeting
President Sherri Simoni is back! She called the meeting to order at 8:17.
Dick Fields led us in the Pledge of Allegiance.
Dick let us know that he "spent 8 years in purgatory" as the only non-Catholic attending parochial school in San Francisco.
Graham Scott chose the Song of the Day - Margaritaville - in honor of Jimmy Buffet who passed away last week.
For Thought of the Day, Jill Duerig invited us to take a moment of quiet for those suffering in Morocco because of the devastating earthquake.
Jerry Hawkins shared the Joke of the Day - Moral of the story is don't bury anyone in Israel unless you're willing for them to rise from the dead 3 days later.
Visiting Rotarian
Visiting Rotarian:
Roy Porfido introduced Bob Tucknott, visiting from the Dublin Club, in the classification of Electrical Contractor.
Welcome Bob!
Today's 10-SPOT
We filled our 64th board today! That's $64,000 raised for our community as we mark our milestones and express our gratitude!
ROTARY NEWS
Above & Beyond
Sherri gave a shout out to our fellow Rotarians who have gone above and beyond this week to represent our club in the community:
Granada High Interact Update
We had an audio update from this year's GHS Interact co-presidents, Nithya and Abby. They had their first club meeting this week and already have 11 new members!
Ambassadors of Compassion Update
We saw two videos, one of Junction Avenue Principal Jeannette Garza, and one of Rich Goldstein that are being used on the AOC website to help the program grow. There is tremendous interest by both District 5170 and other Rotary clubs to help students throughout our area by bringing this valuable program to their schools. Watch for more information as we hope to offer an event for thousands of Bay Area students this coming spring!
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Pie Sale Now through September 15
We are all invited to support the women of Semper Fidelis as they raise money for their charitable work by selling pies. Each year, Charles & Patty Crohare give us this delicious opportunity. Pies are 10" in diameter, arrive frozen (and can keep for up to a year), and are available in a variety of flavors for $20 each.
Please click here to email Charles to let him know you'd like a pie.
Traveler's Tribute
Philomena gave Sherri a bottle of wine from Opolo Vineyard, where she kicked off her anniversary trip instead of coming to the meeting. (I think she's forgiven for missing the meeting.)
Please click on the button below to volunteer to help out at the Lithium-Ion battery and device recycling event on Sunday, September 24 from 11 am - 5 pm at Tri-Valley Car Care in Livermore or Email James Hays by clicking here.

Sherri asked everyone to contribute raffle prizes. We can ask at any of the local businesses we frequent.
Philomena shared the signup form, which wasn't showing properly (unfortunately), but the upside is that she has edited the form and it should be a lot easier to read.
