The Weekly Meeting Summary of the Rotary Club of Livermore Valley
October 24, 2023
Opening the Meeting
  • President Sherri Simoni called the meeting to order at 8:16

  • Today Deb Tacker was our Greeter, and she led us in the Pledge of Allegiance.

    • Her "not widely known fact" today was that years ago she was a crafter/artist with a booth downtown and would sometimes sell holiday ornaments.

    • Correction from last week:  Deb’s little known fact: In 1968 she was voted Dublin’s Miss teenage Citizen because of the volunteer work she did with the women’s club and the junior women’s club!

  • Song of the Day - Complements of Sherri-Monster Mash

  • Thought of the Day - From Charles Crohare by way of Roy Porfido (it takes a team)

  •  Joke of the Day - From Roy, because people don't fully understand Row vs. Wade but George Washington did.  Spooky jokes from Sherri included too many ears in the corn field?!

Visiting Rotarians & Guests
  • Visiting Rotarian: The one, the only, Bob Tucknott, our Electrical Contractor from Dublin.
  • Tina Fernandez, our guest presenter

Today's Program:
Our presenter was Tina Fernandez from HERS (Hope, Empowerment, Renewal, Support).  Tina is a former Rotarian from the Niles Club in Fremont.  The organization provides support for breast cancer patients and they provide "a soft place to fall during one of the hardest times in their lives".
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  According to a paper reported in January 2023 by the American Cancer Society, 5year survivor rates for breast cancer in females across ethnic groups have increased from 75% to 91% from 1975 to 2018.
