TODAY'S PROGRAM: Field Trip to the Livermore Police Department!
Today was a very exciting day for our Club, as Capt. John Reynolds, one of our members, invited us to the Livermore Police Department for a tour of the facility. We were greeted with coffee and bagels in the Community Room.
After greetings and introductions, saying the Pledge of Allegiance, and the Four Way Test, Capt. Reynolds briefly went over the organizational chart of the Police Department, and then we were broken up into three groups to tour areas of the Police Department building and learn more about the wonderful team that serves our Community, and the mysteries that lurk inside the building at 1110 South Livermore Avenue.
All three groups visited the same spots, and breaking into the smaller groups made it more manageable for the many wonderful LPD staff who accompanied us and answered our questions.
My group first visited the VirTra Simulation room, where officers use a very sophisticated virtual reality tool to keep up on various types of training, and improve their skills in important areas like de-escalation, for example.
Next, we went to the Dispatch Area, where we weren't allowed to enter, but we could watch the dispatchers at work from another room through a window. We also visited a room where analysts monitor various activities throughout the community.
Lastly, my group went outside to the back of the building where we got to see and learn about the ways in which our Police Department uses drone technology. We even got to see an officer fly the drone.
On the way to all these spots, we also saw the onsite gym, the evidence room, and break room/kitchen area. There are also rooms where officers can sleep if needed.
The Livermore Police Department consists of about 100 officers and 53 professional staff.
This visit was super engaging and informative. If you couldn't make the meeting today, be sure to ask one of our club members what they enjoyed the most. We are very grateful for our wonderful Police Department and the great work they do to keep engaged with our community, and also keep us safe.
