OPENING THE MEETING
Past President Sarah Palmer called the meeting to order at 9:00 AM
The usual customs were waived today because we were on a field trip to the Zone 7 Del Valle Water Treatment Plant!

TODAY'S PROGRAM: Field Trip at the Del Valle Water Treatment Plant
A big thank you to Sarah Palmer who arranged for a guided tour through Zone 7's Water treatment facility. It was hosted by the Zone 7 staff and they did a wonderful job. The tour group was divided into two groups, but each group toured the different aspects of the plant's operations. We learned that the plant has a daily capacity of 40 million gallons of water processed. On a typical day, they process approximately 20 million gallons of water.
The sources of water are the San Joaquin delta, the Del Valle Reservoir and the Dyer Reservoir all being conveyed through the South Bay Aqueduct to the treatment facility.
Here are some important facts:
Location: East Vineyard Avenue, Livermore, CA (94551)
Capacity: 40 million gallons per day (MGD) of treated drinking water
Service Area: The Tri-Valley region, including Livermore, Pleasanton, Dublin, and the Dougherty Valley
Operations: Built in 1974, it treats surface water primarily sourced from the South Bay Aqueduct
Ozonation System: A $49 million upgrade completed in 2020 introduced ozone as the primary disinfectant instead of chlorine.
Water Quality: Ozone effectively destroys pathogens, removes organic matter, and clears up earthy taste and odor issues caused by seasonal algal blooms.
On-Site Lab: Features the agency's state-of-the-art water quality testing laboratory
