TODAY'S 10-SPOT
Today, we selected the "winner" for our most recent board: Dennis Gambs has identified The Rotary Foundation (TRF), Rotary International's nonprofit foundation, as the recipient of Board #74. That means we have already garnered $73,000 and are in the process of reaching $74,000 worth of contributions! Way to go, Club!
George Wineinger led us in recognizing Charles Crohare and Eric Dillie for their recent contributions to The Rotary Foundation by awarding them with Paul Harris pins.
Named in honor of Rotary's founder, the Paul Harris Fellow recognition acknowledges individuals who contribute, or have contributions made in their name, $1,000 to The Rotary Foundation. Charles received his Paul Harris +8 pin, and Eric received his first Paul Harris pin.
Jill encouraged us to donate to The Rotary Foundation so that our club can continue to earn the distinction of being an "Every Rotarian Every Year" club. All it takes is for each member to donate at least $25 to Rotary International.
When we donate to The Rotary Foundation, we support Rotary's work in our country and around the world, helping to provide education; economic development; disease prevention; mother and child health; water, sanitation & hygiene; peacebuilding; and environmental protection.
All club members are invited to distribute Thanksgiving turkeys and groceries on Monday, November 25, from 2:30 - 6:00 pm at Asbury Methodist Church.
This year, we are partnering with Tri-Valley Haven to serve families whose children attend CAPE Headstart and to other underserved families in our community.
Lauren Franzella is leading the collection of new socks and underwear - sizes 4T - 6T - for the 100+ children (girls and boys) who could be attending the Annual Children's Holiday Party. Lauren is giving us several options to help out:
Purchase and drop off socks and/or underwear at Lauren's house
Venmo Lauren your donation and she will do the shopping for you (Lauren's Venmo is @Lauren-Franzella; confirmation is 0509)
Order socks and/or underwear online and have the order sent to Lauren. Her address (also in ClubRunner) is 1043 Wynn Circle, Livermore, CA 94550.
We welcomed Roland Williams, General Manager of the Castro Valley Sanitary District and President of Alameda County Special Districts Association.
Roland is a Rotarian! He works on the weekends at Longevity Winery.
What are Special Districts? Political Subdivisions of the states, like hospital district, water district, parks and recreation…
They work within unincorporated and incorporated areas. Usually for special needs operating critical facilities and infrastructure. They can be both large and small. Represent 17.5% of government revenue nationwide. They provide 41.1% of utilities.
There are about 30,000 in the US and 2000 in California alone. Typically first line workers, approximately 120,000. They are formed for special reasons, and authorized through enabling acts in statute.
They are formed and owned by the community and provide a service and employ highly trained individuals to focus on a function. They are typically governed by a board of directors following the Brown Act rules.
