PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
We are continuing to navigate through our Rotary year with determination and grace. Loved seeing so many of you at our last two meetings in person! I'm so grateful to Dick Quigley and his committee for finding a meeting place for us. It is super nice and the breakfast is good. And thank you to Kevin McCallum for managing Zoom so our meetings can be hybrid and available to all members!
As you might remember, August was Rotary's membership month, and our club rose to the occasion, bringing a total of 4 guests to meetings. Let's continue that trend - remember, all are welcome!
We had lots of fun participating in our first service activity this year, packing food for Kids Against Hunger. This organization ships highly nutrition, life-saving meals to starving and malnourished children in developing companies as well as in the United States. On September 35, we will have another opportunity to participate in a Kids Against Hunger food packing activity. Join in the fun and fellowship, getting to know Rotarians from throughout Area 4.
We also hit the ground running on our Wheelchair Foundation project. 14 wheelchairs have been donated so far! This project shared by all of District 5170. We are going to ship at least one container, hopefully two, to Mexico. Each container carries 280 wheelchairs that positively impact not only the recipients, but also their family members, friends, and community. It is so rewarding to serve to change lives.
The Rotary theme for September is Basic Education & Literacy. How do we help with that? As most of you know, for many years our club has partnered with the Noon Club and the Rotarian Foundation of Livermore to provide dictionaries to third graders in Livermore. This year we will all launch the Third Grade Literacy Project, providing a book of their choice to each third grader in the Livermore School District.
We are always excited to learn about new ways of serving our community. Kim Curtis, from Goodness Village, shared a service project we could consider: building a dog run for Goodness Village. Let me know your thoughts.
Yours in Rotary,
Angelika
