Dear Rotarians,
The Holiday Season is upon us. It is usually a time of reflection, gratitude, a dose of additional family and friends gatherings, but also some added stress due to wanting to create the perfect holiday party or finding the perfect gifts for our loved ones.
As I like to connect my president's message each month with some Rotary values or inspiration, I want to share with you that December is Disease Prevention and Treatment Month for Rotary.
You might ask yourself how does the Rotary December theme of Disease Prevention and Treatment fit into a Holiday message? Here it goes HOHOHO!!
ONE OF THE BEST GIFTS YOU CAN GIVE YOURSELF IS HEALTH.
As Rotarians we believe that good health and wellbeing is a human right - even though 400 million people across the globe do not have access to essential health services. Here in the United States we are very fortunate to have access to essential health services, but still 40% of our population has chronic diseases, lots of them preventable.
So let's look inward. As Rotarians are people of action, let's look at a few things we can do in our own lives to be healthier:
- EXERCISE: pass it on to the next generation - it is a “ wonder drug”
- EAT WELL
- HAVE AN ACTIVE SOCIAL LIFE
- GET PLENTY OF SLEEP
I love the quote, "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” We all know that quote, but it is always good to be reminded.
What you do as an individual does affect your group. The healthier you are, the more positively you can influence your family, neighborhood and Rotary Club.
Let's be role models in all aspects of life.
From the bottom of my heart I am wishing you a healthy and happy Holiday Season
Yours in Rotary,
Angelika
