PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Dear Rotarians,

The Holiday Season is upon us. It is usually a time of reflection, gratitude, a dose of additional family and friends gatherings, but also some added stress due to wanting to create the perfect holiday party or finding the perfect gifts for our loved ones.

As I like to connect my president's message each month with some Rotary values or inspiration, I want to share with you that December is Disease Prevention and Treatment Month for Rotary.

You might ask yourself how does the Rotary December theme of Disease Prevention and Treatment fit into a Holiday message? Here it goes HOHOHO!!

ONE OF THE BEST GIFTS YOU CAN GIVE YOURSELF IS HEALTH.

As Rotarians we believe that good health and wellbeing is a human right - even though 400 million people across the globe do not have access to essential health services. Here in the United States we are very fortunate to have access to essential health services, but still 40% of our population has chronic diseases, lots of them preventable.

So let's look inward. As Rotarians are people of action, let's look at a few things we can do in our own lives to be healthier:
  • EXERCISE: pass it on to the next generation - it is a “ wonder drug”
  • EAT WELL
  • HAVE AN ACTIVE SOCIAL LIFE
  • GET PLENTY OF SLEEP
I love the quote, "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” We all know that quote, but it is always good to be reminded.

What you do as an individual does affect your group. The healthier you are, the more positively you can influence your family, neighborhood and Rotary Club.

Let's be role models in all aspects of life.

From the bottom of my heart I am wishing you a healthy and happy Holiday Season

Yours in Rotary,
Angelika
President Angelika Voss-Quinn & Club Director Peter Quinn exchanged club banners with The Rotary Club of Clearwater (Florida), represented by President Stephanie Zaragoza.

Remember, Rotarians are welcome at Rotary club meetings worldwide!
At our November 29th meeting, we awarded close to $6,000 to seven local organizations to further their important work that aligns with our mission as Rotarians. We are proud to be able to serve our community. Thanks to Sarah Palmer for her leadership as Club Grant Chair.
Jill Duerig was recently honored for her generosity to the Rotarian Foundation. She is pictured with Rotary International President Shekhar Mehta (right) and Past President and current Foundation Chair, Mark Maloney (left).

We delivered over 50 turkeys and grocery gift cards to local families.

Congratulations to Ben Wiggington, our November Student of the Month!

Ben is a top scholar at Granada High School, excelling in Advanced Placement courses such as Calculus and Physics, and earning a 4.24 GPA. He is a member of the Matador Baseball Team, and worked with the GHS Gardening Club to develop a garden at GHS. Principal Matthew Hart shared that Ben, as class officer, is a “quiet leader” who organizes, implements, and then can be found helping out by cleaning up after an event. Ben organized events that kept his classmates connected during distance learning. He helps to develop empathy and unity through his involvement in Humans of Granada (check out humansofgranada on Instagram).

Ben has applied to several universities and plans to study mechanical engineering after graduation.
Members and their guests are invited to celebrate the holidays together at the Quinns' home on Saturday, December 18 at 5:00.
