Rotary Club of Livermore Valley ~ August 2021 Newsletter
PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Wow, this first month of our new Rotary year has started like a whirlwind!
We had our first in-person meeting at Alden Lane Nursery, after 15 months of Zoom. We had such a good time seeing each other and celebrating fun, fellowship and our new Rotary theme, Serve to Change Lives.
With great joy we inducted our first new member of this year, Tammy Barstow. We are excited to welcome her as a part of our Rotary team!
We participated in the District 5170 Conference, where we enjoyed getting to know Rotarians from throughout our District. We shared ideas, common goals and some dance moves.
We initiated our international fundraiser to help send wheelchairs to individuals in Mexico who need them. Our club's goal is to send at least 13 Wheelchairs to Mexico. Let's do it!
Just in our first month, we raised over $2,000 for the Rotary Foundation. What a great start! You can go to rotary.org to make your donation, or contact our Rotary International Chair, George Wineinger, for more information. We really are gearing up this year to reach our goal of Every Rotarian Every Year. We just need each member to donate at least $25 to the Rotary Foundation.
Most of all, our club operates on the idea that “Rotarians who play together stay together!” We had our first play date (LOL) at the Quinns’ backyard. It was very well attended and lots of fun.
In order to be successful in serving to help others, we need a strong base of committed Rotarians, who have fun and enjoy working together. So let's look into the future. August is Rotary's membership month. Our Rotary International President's emphasis is to build up our membership so we can increase our service. He wants us to each bring at least one guest during the year and this should result in increased membership. Remember as we grow more, we can do more. Rotary has so much to offer! It really opens the door to world wide opportunities for service and fellowship.Extend an invitation to friends, neighbors, business associates etc., give people an opportunity to help and serve.
During these difficult times I would love it if you would reach out to your fellow Rotarians to see how they are doing and to help if necessary. Let us start with helping and caring for each other!
Our first service activity took place August 6th. We helped pack food for Kids against Hunger. This organization ships highly nutritious, life-saving meals to starving and malnourished children in developing countries and in disaster situations, as well as feeding hungry children in the United States.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me with ideas on how we can serve our community.
It is a pleasure to be your president,
Angelika Voss-Quinn
