All community members are invited to drop off their used lithium-ion batteries and/or their devices that contain lithium-ion batteries for free recycling. Rotary club members will be at Tri-Valley Car Care from 11 am - 5 pm on Sunday, January 12 to accept your items and have them safely recycled to help our environment.

Please note: To recycle your device, the item must contain a lithium-ion battery. It must not require a plugged-in cord to operate. We only accept rechargeable items with lithium-ion batteries.

Why should you recycle lithium-ion batteries?

• Keeps end-of-life lithium-ion batteries out of landfills
• Helps increase the security of a domestic supply chain for raw battery materials
• Supports domestic remanufacturing of lithium-ion batteries
• Reduces the need to mine from the earth

Why it matters

As the world electrifies to combat climate change, lithium-ion battery demand is projected to increase by 500 percent in the coming years. These batteries will be needed for new electric vehicles and clean energy products but additionally, demand for rechargeable consumer devices is also increasing that source these same materials.

Batteries are in nearly every consumer device; from cell phones to laptops, e-bikes to scooters and electric toothbrushes to vacuum cleaners and power drills, consumer demand for rechargeable batteries is skyrocketing. And, as more electric vehicles hit our roads, we’ll need more and more batteries.

All lithium-ion batteries are made up of varying amounts of critical minerals like cobalt, copper, nickel, and lithium. Whether a laptop or an electric vehicle, lithium-ion batteries source the same elements on the periodic table. What’s perhaps even more incredible is that these metals can be recycled almost infinitely. Because metal atoms don’t degrade, recycled lithium or nickel units perform the same as newly mined material – in fact, sometimes even better! This creates a tremendous opportunity for recycling.  

This program brings us one step closer to creating a domestic, circular supply chain for all end-of-life batteries and solving the environmental impacts of new products before they happen.

We welcome Ann Brown, Schools Outreach Director for TVAQCA - Tri-Valley Air Quality Climate Alliance - who will share about the Miyawaki Forest Project in Livermore.

Ann Brown has trained with Green Pocket Forest and has attended the first International Symposium for Miyawaki Forests in Japan. She is now networked with Miyawaki Forest Makers around the world. Ann also draws on years of experience with teaching, curriculum development, and native plant and horticulture experience. 

Dr. Cathia Walters, a Licensed Clinical Psychologist, will help us on the road to wellness by teaching us goal setting and meditation techniques.

We are excited to hear from Dr. Walters, especially as she is one of our newest club members!

Sleep in Tuesday morning, and join our monthly "Last Tuesday" social. We'll mix in a bit of our meeting fun and devote most of the evening to fellowship! 

This month we meet at First Street Alehouse in Downtown Livermore.

Please register for this event so that the Alehouse knows how much space to reserve for us. We will have the back room to ourselves.

Attendees will order their own food and libations, so no money will be collected in advance.

Sleep in Tuesday morning, and join our monthly "Last Tuesday" social. We'll mix in a bit of our meeting fun and devote most of the evening to fellowship! 

We will meet February 25 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Wood Family Vineyards for wine, cheese, and chocolate!

Friends and guests are welcome!

The cost is $35 and includes gratuity. You may pay at the door, but all attendees must register in advance - by Thursday, February 21 - so that the right amount of cheese and chocolate will be ordered. We won't be able to accept walk-ins.

You're invited to join the Rotary District 5170 International Women's day event, a celebraton of women's achievements and a call to action for gender equity. You will be inspired by a panel of speakers who will share their insights and experiences in alignment with the International Women's Day theme, "Let's Accelerate Action."

Tickets are $80 for Rotarians - $40 for your guest! -  and include wine, appetizers, dessert, project fair, and the panel of speakers.

We welcome Dana Cooper, RN, who will share the importance of AED equipment and will provide us with the instructions needed to use an AED in an emergency.

We welcome Omar Nawaz who will provide us with information on A.I. Omar is currently the Global Executive Director of the Applied Artificial Intelligence Association (AAIA), where he leads initiatives to promote the adoption and advancement of AI technologies across industries. Fascinated by emerging technologies like AI and blockchain, Omar explores their transformative impact on how we work, learn, and grow personally.

For over 27 years, Omar Nawaz has led successful businesses of all sizes, from startups to Fortune 500 companies. His passion is building and scaling businesses from the ground up. As a serial entrepreneur, he has scaled product lines from $0 to $100 million at Cisco and Microsoft and launched multiple companies.

Omar holds an MBA and an MS in Engineering from San Jose State University, a BSc in Electrical Engineering from the University of Utah, and an Executive Certificate in Strategy and Innovation from MIT. 

We are celebrating 40 years of the Rotary Club of Livermore Valley making a positive difference in our community! Club members who have been around for years will share the story of our club's launch and impact for decades.

We welcome David Weisberger, Community Outreach Supervisor for the Livermore Area Recreation and Park District, who will give us an update on LARPD. Join the conversation as we hear about new trails, programs, and outreach.

Christine Dillman, Executive Director of Tri-Valley Haven, will share the good work of this nonprofit organization. Tri-Valley Haven serves adults and children who have experienced domestic violence, sexual assault, or homelessness in the Tri-Valley area.

We welcome Las Positas College Community Education staff, Megan Garcia and Tracy Peterson, who will tell us about the Maryin Ave STEAM Summer Program at Las Positas College. This program received funding from the Rotarian Foundation of Livermore.

All club members are invited to our May "Last Tuesday" social at the home of Beth McCormick and George Duarte. Come ready to have fun as we enjoy a game night with fellow Rotarians and guests.

Beth and George will have lots of games for us to enjoy. Everyone is asked to bring a favorite beverage and a potluck dish to share.

Join Livermore Valley Rotary and Livermore Rotary as we build more beds to meet this tremendous need! We will meet at AMOS Temple CME Church at 1500 90th Avenue in Oakland on Friday, June 6 to build. Start time is 8 a.m. so please arrive 15 minutes early. 

There is limited parking as the beds will be built in the parking lot, so please carpool if you can, otherwise please find street parking.

Join Livermore Valley Rotary and Kids Against Hunger to create emergency food packs for people in need. This work day will benefit people in Ukraine

The event is Saturday, June 7 from 11-12:30 the Kids Against Hunger Warehouse, 1258 Quarry Lane, Pleasanton.

Anyone 8+ can participate, so please invite your family and friends to join. Arrive a little early to make the most of the day!

We will enjoy breakfast at the Livermore Rodeo Grounds while hearing an update of the philanthropic work of the Livermore Rodeo Foundation and getting a preview of the Livermore Rodeo! Longtime Rotarian and Rodeo Foundation member Kathleen Minser will be our host.

Join Livermore Valley Rotary as we support the Livermore Rodeo parade. There are so many jobs to do the day of, bring your walking shoes (or your cowboy boots) and get ready to join the fun. The parade is Saturday, June 14. Arrive between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. -your arrival time will depend on your role.

Livermore Valley Rotary is supporting Tri Valley Haven in collecting new backpacks and school supplies for our community's children. Please work together to select a grade level, label the backpack with said grade level, and have fun filling the bag with supplies! While there is a suggested list of supplies via this link: Tri Valley Haven's website  you can always add some fun and exciting things to delight the child receiving their new backpack!

Backpacks need to be delivered to Tri Valley Haven no later than July 18 at 4 p.m. so they can be given to children before they start the school year.

All members and their guests are invited to the 2025 Demotion Dinner, celebrating a fabulous year led by Club President Beth McCormick. We will also enjoy a special magic act by Roy the Magician, and a tribute song by Jerry Hawkins. We will announce the 2025 Rotarian of the Year and will pass the baton to our incoming president, Sarah Palmer.

We will gather in Mony Nop's backyard, dining al fresco, and enjoying a great BBQ dinner including tri-tip, chicken, salads, baked beans, grilled veggies, and more. Gates open at 6:00, dinner is served at 6:45 pm.

Members are asked to contribute $20 per person and to bring a favorite beverage to share.
