In honor of longtime Rotarian and esteemed Livermore leader, veterinarian, and veteran, we are invited to a Memorial Day BBQ that doubles as a fundraiser to endow a scholarship fund in Dr. John Shirley's memory. In partnership with the Pedrozzi Foundation, Rotarians and guests are encouraged to celebrate Memorial Day at the home and garden of Sblend and Beth Sblendorio. The ticket price of $125 per person is a donation to the scholarship fund. The event is a gift of our hosts. All Rotarians are invited to participate in the Rotary International Convention in Houston, Texas from June 4 - 8, 2022. If you can't make it to Houston, you are invited to join through livestreaming and breakout sessions online. For information on the Virtual Convention, please visit the Rotary International Convention Virtual Program webpage. Registration is $75 and include access to recordings through August 2022. Virtual Convention Agenda: Sessions will be livestreamed 30 minutes prior to the start, through the end of the program. Livestreamed content will be recorded and offered on-demand as soon as possible after the live event ends. On demand content will be available until 31 August 2022. Livestreamed content will be available in the languages that are offered at the in-person event. Note: all times below are CDT (Chicago-time) Saturday 4 June

Volunteers are invited to help construct the new stage for Shakespeare in the Vineyards! Building will take place Wednesday, June 15 and Thursday, June 16. Volunteers are welcome one day or both days! Each day has two shifts, 8:00 a.m. - noon, and 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. Supervisors from SCENIC, the stage-building company, will supervise our work. Volunteers may be needed on Friday, June 17, and will be needed again on Monday, August 8 and Tuesday, August 9 to strike (deconstruct) the stage. All sign-ups are online through SignUpGenius. Eileen Vergino will share the mission of Violins of Hope and encourage us to enjoy upcoming concerts in Livermore this coming February. Violins of Hope, a collection of restored instruments that were played by Jewish musicians in the ghettos and concentration camps during the Holocaust, joins with the East Bay Holocaust Education Center to bring free educational exhibits and concerts to schools. In addition, we are invited to purchase tickets to hear the Violins at the Bankhead Theater performed by our own Livermore-Amador Symphony along with professional soloists. Raya Zion immigrated from Israel with her parents in 1970, leaving a difficult life behind but encountering new challenges. Raya's story is one of resilience and a positive mindset that "everything can be achieved successfully." Raya has used her experiences to propel her in her service to immigrant students and other underrepresented individuals through her work at Laney College and the Workforce Development Boards of San Mateo and Alameda Counties and the San Mateo Labor Council. We look forward to hearing and learning from Raya. |

We look forward to welcoming Mark Triska, who will provide us with information about the proposed sewer line extension to the south Livermore viticultural region. This extension supports the Livermore wine region, and is part of meeting the needs identified by the UC Davis study that Lori Souza shared with us several months ago. Measure P, on our November 8 ballot, asks us: Shall the ordinance amending the South Livermore Urban Growth Boundary policies in the City of Livermore's General Plan to allow the City to extend sewer service to permitted uses within the South Livermore Valley Area Plan Planning Area be adopted? |
